Retinol dynamics
A derivative of Vitamin A, retinol and its relatives are the gold standard for skin renewal, in that they accelerate the cell turnover rate in the skin. As such, retinol helps reduce photoaging’s unevenness in both texture and pigment as well as help to empty pores and clear acne. Retinol itself is part of the retinoid family, some of which are derivatives so strong they are only available by prescription.
In it’s pure form, retinol can cause irritation and dry, flaking skin for those who are not used to it. The stronger the solution, the faster the skin is to dry out and flake. But new versions have solved this problem with slow-release encapsulation which works as a non-irritating time release.
