Marion Simms on Enhancing Micro-Spicule-Fueled Medi Lift

Marion Simms, aesthetician, founder and proprietor of SkinSense Wellness Spa in Los Angeles, shares her pointers on how to increase the efficacy of topical products including Medi Lift.

Says the knowledgeable Ms. Simms, “In the most simplistic terms, the job of the skin is to keep the bad stuff out and the good stuff in. As with much of physiology, it’s a timing issue. By day the skin deals with environmental issues and injury, by night it handles repair and renewal on the inside. Products that deal with the skin’s surface–and immediately below it– can’t do all the work on their own; you have to partner with them. In caring for your complexion, you can help both your skin and your topicals work better.”

Though Marion notes these specifically with Medi Lift in mind, all of these suggestions are apropos no matter what skincare regimen you use:

  • Cleanse and rinse your face well morning and night (and after a workout or sweaty exertion, of course)

Says Marion, “Lots of people skip washing their face in the morning which is a mistake. During the night, residue, particularly oils, sweat and cellular sloughing–and this includes those generated by bedtime companions whether human or otherwise–accumulate and should be cleaned away.”

  • Exfoliate 3 times per week.

Says Marion, “If there are any dead skin cells, makeup or microscopic bits of product debris remaining on the face, these will inhibit ingredient penetration. Exfoliation–but without damaging, breaking or burning the skin–will clear the area.”

  • Treat yourself to microcurrent treatments regularly.

Says Marion: “You can choose to do these yourself at home (I recommend 4-5 times a week) or have them done professionally (once a week). Microcurrent emits small electric impulses that stimulate cellular activity. There are all kinds of excellent home device choices out there. Note that Galvanic current is not the same as microcurrent though both deliver similar results. With either, consistency is the key to success here so stick with it for a few months to see real results.

  • Get regular facials.

Says Marion, “Obviously I’m subjective on this issue. But professional facials that include extractions clear the pores of sludge and make them more receptive to active ingredients. Even dry skin needs the occasional extraction at the hands of a professional; they’re not just for acne-prone teenagers. And no, you may NOT do extractions on yourself!”

  • Wear at least an SPF30 every day.

Says Marion, “Unprotected sun exposure is the Number One source of extrinsic skin damage and can nullify all the good work you’re doing with your products and treatments. And reapplication at mid-day is a good idea too, though admittedly, very few people actually do this.”
